Seeing that this blog is called “Gail’s Felines on the Web”, I suppose I better tell you about the two felines that have shared my life for the last year. I met them in Namaqualand at a B&B that became the base of the Cape Leopard Trust.
The previous owners of the two kitties were moving to Jo’burg and had an attitude towards their pets that I simply could not understand. As far as they were concerned, a pet was an object they kept for mild amusement and if it ever got a bit too inconvenient, they could simply give it away or send it to the vet to be put down. Needless to say, I wasn’t particularly impressed; especially since the two kitties (and one dog) in question were friendly, beautiful and in the prime of their lives.
When they left for Jo’burg, they left their pets in our care (the most convenient option for them, of course) and later suggested that if they were too much trouble, we could put them down. At that suggestion I said, “Well, then I’ll take care of them and take them home with me”. The owner of the cats sounded quite relieved (mostly because it is expensive to put animals down) and promptly agreed to give me the cats.
Thankfully, my parents were available to drive all the way across the country to pick me and my pussies up and then take them home with us. The drive was incredibly long, but the cats were in cat boxes and they were very well-behaved, they only gave a few little meows every now and then to show their distress. We all arrived home in one piece and lived "Happily ever after"!
